GDOP breaks into prayer groups

GDOP breaks into prayer groups

BELIZE JOURNAL. We did not expect a large crowd at the May 19 GDOP in Belize City. Less than two weeks earlier, hundreds had committed time to pray night after night during the May 7-10 sodomy case hearing. And our contacts did not notify the Spanish-speaking churches in time. Yet about 500 showed up for the Belize City GDOP. We joined millions of people from most of the nations in the world. But the emphasis of GDOP is no longer on boosting the number of nations that participate. Instead it encourages every family, small group and church to get involved. That way more people can add their prayers to heaven’s bowls of incense. And more power will fall on the nations when heaven pours them out!

Unity adds the power of agreement to those prayers. Last year our Belize Prayer Network sought God for declarations at GDOP of what He wanted to do in the coming year. He showed us His good will for Belize in each of the seven arenas of national influence. For Family, Spiritual Life, Education, Economy, Government, Arts and Media we submitted a total of 34 declarations to the Belize Association of Evangelical Churches. And BAEC approved them for the crowd to speak out in unison in the GDOP grand finale in 2012.

ONE PEOPLE WITH ONE VOICE. This year at GDOP we did likewise. We added new declarations that our disputed borders are established & secured by God. That He will give grace to straying men to become the husbands and fathers He made them to be. That He will raise up teachers to show students godly ways. That He will train counselors to turn them them from the broad ways of destruction. That He will turn students into overcomers who live on faith, on the word of God and prayer. That He will provide Belize with faithful stewards and resources to relieve its huge debt burden. That He will demonstrate the Spirit’s power in private and public spheres. That He will display His glory in the arts and media, as well as in the church. And that He will prepare Belize for great outpourings of His Spirit, and for great spiritual and physical harvests as a result. He is more than willing and able to answer, when we do our part and pray.

In fact at GDOP 2013 we had testimonies of what great things He had done, month after month, in response to our GDOP 2012 declarations. In July God turned back an effort to decriminalize marijuana. In August He turned away Hurricane Ernesto. In September He expelled from our primary schools a “health & family” manual that promoted homosexuality. Thank God all our children were spared this propaganda!

Mark Humes leads prayer for our government as Nazira Espat translates into Spanish

In October He enabled the first annual audit of our government in many years. In November He quickly brought to confession the murderer of three family members in their Ladyville home. In December he prevented the highly publicized visit of anti-semitic and racist Louis Farrakhan to Belize. In January a 13-year-old runaway schoolgirl came back to her Belize City home and received Jesus Christ as Lord. In February the Strong Men’s Tour trained leaders to start men’s accountability groups. In March Belize struck a deal to reduce the interest rate on its massive Superbond debt by 41% and the subsequent step-up rate by 20%. And in April 450 churches in San Benito, Guatemala—Belize City’s sister city—committed to partner with our Belize Association of Evangelical Churches in prayer. This was a breakthrough in Belize’s thorny relationship in Guatemala that we have long prayed for!

We made one significant change this year. In 2012 we asked the audience to break up into groups of three to pray for a few minutes. This time we asked them to join prayer leaders who were dispersed in the crowd. This way everyone could participate in a small group prayer meeting. They all let loose with impassioned prayer for about 15 minutes. It was one of the highlights of our night. But it was only a taste of what they could do every week instead of just once a year, if they joined a local prayer group. With so much more prayer God would answer us so much more!.We ended the night making the following declarations in unison, with one voice. Stay tuned as God answers these prayers!

We glorify You as the only true God, holy, loving and all-powerful, with all authority in heaven and earth

We thank You that You have given us that authority to make disciples and teach them to obey everything You have commanded us.

We confess our sins in not loving as we should, not making disciples as we should, and not being the disciples You have made us to be

We receive Your forgiveness for our sins and Your power to overcome them.

We release forgiveness for past offenses that have divided us and weakened the body of Christ

We declare our unity based not on our own righteousness, but on our faith in Christ, His inerrant Word, and His incomparably great power for us who believe

We declare God’s grace on us to resolve conflicts and show mutual appreciation in the body of Christ

We declare that we are Your chosen people for such a time as this in the life of Belize

We declare that Belize is under God’s special protection and care, because it is “founded on principles that acknowledge the supremacy of God” according to our Constitution

We declare that God is supreme over Belize, where the vast majority of people profess to be Christians, and that He is our greatest defense against foreign invasions

We declare that our borders are established by God Himself and made secure by Him

We affirm with the Constitution “the equal and inalienable rights…endowed by their Creator”

We declare the right to life endowed by the Creator, starting at conception, and the illegality of abortion

We declare that sodomy is not a right endowed by the Creator because it violates His design for sex

We declare that God designed sex for us to be fruitful and multiply within marriages producing families

We declare that God provides a way for every sinful individual and broken family to be forgiven, healed and brought into right relationships

We declare that the effort to legalize sodomy will see defeat after defeat until it is completely defeated

We declare that the churches in Belize will keep growing in unity as we respond to the gay agenda with God’s better plan for marriage, sex and family

We declare grace for men to grow into their roles as loving husbands & fathers who cultivate godly families

We declare that God will raise up more teaching resources with godly principles and biblical worldviews

We declare that God will raise up more teachers who grow in His love, righteousness, wisdom, authority and power for their students’ sakes

We declare divine power for students to overcome enemy attacks together with the Word, prayer & praise

We declare that as we make more room for God in our schools, Christian teachers and He will address every difficulty in learning, discipline, counseling and guidance

We declare a new era of in-depth training for counselors to save, deliver, heal and restore to wholeness

We declare that God will provide a way out of gangs, and into fulfilling relationships, education & jobs

We declare grace to overcome greed, addiction, deception, and idol worship

We declare that the deception behind witchcraft, Freemasonry and cults will be exposed and weakened

We declare that God will show us how to put our family and church finances in right order

We declare that God will provide resources to overcome debt and prosper the nation, when He finds good and faithful stewards to develop and distribute them justly

We declare that God will show Belize how to survive and thrive in the current world economic crisis

We declare that He will pour out blessings on those who give tithes and offerings consistently

We declare that God will provide His counsel to church leaders whenever PM Barrow consults them

We declare Holy Spirit conviction on those engaged in political corruption

We declare grace for those willing to change their ways, and exposure of those who aren’t

We declare that God is raising up Christian political leaders to represent Him and represent the people

We declare that God will lead musicians, artists and churches into deeper encounters with Him,

We declare that God will stir up musicians and artists to public displays of His glory

We declare more demonstrations of the Spirit’s power not just in church but in the public and in media

We declare that God will use more media to make His good will known and draw multitudes to Him

We declare that God is preparing Belize for outpourings of His Spirit and great future harvests

We declare that God will empower ongoing prayer, discipleship, leadership training to undergird revival

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine,

according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church

and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
