PRAYER ALERT on #MarchForIndia. Today #MarchForIndia participants, protesting against an “anti intolerance campaign”, turned against journalists. In Rajpath, Mousmi Singh and her crew were pushed around by marchers. They were heckled even after others tried to fend off the hecklers. A police team finally intervened and ushered her to safety. Various journalists covering #MarchForIndia were abused and heckled.
The #MarchForIndia protesters charged the media with anti-government reporting. Earlier dozens of intellectuals gave up their official honors. They did so criticizing the Hindu-dominated government for intolerance against non-Hindus. The government is even advocating an anti conversion bill. It would outlaw conversion from Hinduism. It would also jail evangelists. In response to these and other discriminatory measures, intellectuals and artists mounted an #AwardWapisi campaign. They publicly renounced their awards in protest.
The #MarchForIndia was aimed against #AwardWapisi. It was called by actor Anupam Kher, husband of ruling party MP Chandigarh Kirron Kher. It was joined by more than 40 other personalities including writers, artists and filmmakers. Anupam Kher said that “India is one and free of intolerance… This march is led by Indians and for Indians.” But many identify #MarchForIndia with the Hindutva philosophy. Hindutva holds that the Indian subcontinent is the homeland of Hindus. It contends that to be Indian is to be Hindu.
PRAY WITH US. Father God, we thank you for the one and only Savior Jesus Christ. He has been tolerant with us. He let all men go their own way. But He has not left Himself without testimony. Since He died for us, Christianity has slowly grown in India amid much opposition. Help Your people there overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. Expose the deniers of widespread intolerance. Bring down the anti conversion campaign. Consider their threats. Enable Your people to speak Your word boldly. Stretch out Your hand to heal. Do signs and wonders in Jesus’ name. Make Your people Your lights. Spread the good news of Your kingdom which cannot be denied by any government. And increase Your government and peace in India. In Jesus’ name, amen.
DailyInsight: Intolerance is intolerant even of intolerance, and cannot find peace (see Rom. 14:13-18).
