BELIZE JOURNAL PT.1 on new evangelical association . Recently our National Evangelical Association of Belize (NEAB) sent a committee to meet with Prime Minister Dean Barrow. It was a courtesy call. He responded with reciprocal courtesy. PM Barrow acknowledged that our new evangelical association , with 244+ members, represented the churches in a wider way than before. He hoped that the recent difficulty with some Belize District churches could be resolved. The PM reaffirmed his belief that evangelicals are serious about standing for godliness and for biblical ethics.
He reassured our new evangelical association that we need not worry about LGBT activists gaining new privileges. He said not only that he personally does not support same-same marriages. But that neither do the laws of Belize. However, he asked that we continue to wait on the verdict of Chief Justice Benjamin. He heard the sodomy court case in May 2013.
The Prime Minister said he wants our relationship with him to grow. He wants it to continue with future prime ministers. Our committee told him that we are committed to serve our nation. We want to work with him and other leaders for the best interests of the nation. He committed to meeting with all the leaders of our new evangelical association in the second quarter of 2016.
I submitted to our NEAB President Lance Lewis some biblical principles that we could keep in mind in our future relationship with the government. He asked me to share them with other leaders. The big question is, how do we stay faithful to God while submitting to a secular government?
DailyInsight. To force faith is a contradiction. “Faith” that uses force is armed coercion, not religion (See Eph. 2:8).
