PRAYER ALERT for emotional healing. We have entered the final three weeks of our 50-day fast on destructive criticism. The more we build up the Body of Christ instead of criticize it, the better witnesses we will be for Christ during our current Festival of Hope evangelism campaign. One reason we have so much harmful criticism in the Body of Christ is because the Body is hurting. Hurt people hurt people. So in this week of the fast we let’s focus on emotional healing for the Body.
Beginning Sunday, each day this week in our Facebook group we will have a post on emotional healing.
Confiding in God as your best friend
We often need someone to talk to, to unburden our hearts. When we find someone who is willing to listen, we tend to say too much. Because out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Mt. 12:34). Sometimes we say what we shouldn’t behind people’s backs. Our hearer will be encouraged to do the same. Before long we are engaged in unrighteous judgments, slander and gossip. The more we talk in this way, the more we grieve the Spirit of God, and please the accuser of the brethren. And we can hardly ever be sure that our hearer will keep it confidential. The more this talk gets around, the more damage it will do.
But we can always go to God and say anything that is on our hearts. We can give full vent before God to our hurts, our fears, our anger, even the murder in our hearts, as David so often does. Listen to him in Psalm 139:19, 21-22.
If only You would slay the wicked, O God!
Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!…
Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord,
and abhor those who rise up against you?
I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
But then in verses 23-24, David admits the anxiety and sin that he has just spilled out before God.
Search me, O Lord, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead my in the way everlasting.
We can trust God to search our hearts, understand, and to convict and forgive us of any sin we confess. He can cleanse us and replace our thoughts with His thoughts, if we only let Him. He will show us what to say and what not to say. And He will make all things work to the good of those who love Him. Keep loving God, and He will keep showing His way through every situation.
PRAYER. Father, I thank You that I can come to You at any time and pour out my heart. I thank You that You are ready to forgive my sins, heal my hurts, and give me Your heart. In every problem I face, remind me to come to You first, receive Your counsel, and then be a part of the solution. In Jesus’ name, amen.
