Corporate Spiritual Warfare Basics

Corporate spiritual warfare is an extension of personal spiritual warfare. We don’t try to cast a demon out of a person who doesn’t want Jesus as Lord. If we do, the demon has the right to take seven spirits more wicked back with him (Mt. 12:43-45). That’s why Jesus and the disciples never tried to cast demons out of the Pharisees.

In the same way, we don’t try to cast a spirit out of a region. A spirit has influence over a region to the degree that people there cooperate with him. If we violate the legal rights the demon has over them, he may bring back seven worse demons (see Prov. 6:30-31). You can bind the strong man and plunder his house (Mt. 12:29), but if the house stays empty, the demon can bring back seven more. Both of those Scriptures (12:29 and 12:43-45) are in the same context, of Jesus teaching about casting out demons.

Instead of casting a spirit out of a region, we pray for more of God’s influence over the people in that region: to show them His love, their sin, His sacrifice for sin, His forgiveness, and His power to fill them. As people in that region, one by one, turn to Jesus and stop cooperating with the devil, demons will lose their power and God’s kingdom will increase (Mt. 12:28).

That’s what our seven mountain prayer campaigns are for. We’re taking ground from the enemy, step by step, by praying for God’s influence, seeing what God does with those prayers, then praying for Him to keep extending that influence, month after month, with short-term prayer targets that lead to long-term objectives (example: VICTORY). As we unite with more intercessors and leaders in prayer, we will be able to face giants together, and take away the ground they have, first in our churches, then in our communities, cities, and nations.
