Hunger Grips Latin America as Pandemic Persists

PRAY WITH US about hunger grips Latin America, that God will:

Provide ways for the 16 million hungry Latin Americans to access the abundant food supply there. And reverse the recession and provide jobs in a great economic recovery.
End the pandemic with a reliable vaccine as well as waves of divine healing.
Enable World Vision and other agencies to work with local pastors to reach all affected peoples. And draw them and their children to Jesus, so that He may keep giving them life abundantly.

PRAYER ALERT: Hunger Grips Latin America as Pandemic Persists

As a result of the pandemic, the number of people going hungry in Latin American and Caribbean nations will rise from 4.3 million to 16 million, according to the UN World Food Programme—likely the steepest rise in the world. In fact, Belize was already in recession when the pandemic struck. Now with Belize national elections this month, our evangelical association has asked each political party to specify how they will bring us into recovery from Covid and recession, but so far, no detailed answers. Meanwhile, pray that our feeding program at Remar can continue to fill in important gaps in Belize City.

The region is sinking into its worst recession in a century, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. Moreover, this recession reverses the growth in Latin America’s middle class families since 2000. They have little left over after paying for housing and utilities.

Yet Latin America does not lack for food. Its fertile valleys and plains produce enough grain, fruit and protein to export around the world. But its impoverished people can afford only meager portions. So the malnutrition that plagued the region decades ago has returned with cruel severity.

In May, World Vision started a $350 million campaign to work with pastors worldwide to reach communities with a total population of 72 million people, half of them children. Moreover, this campaign would use the pastors to help with aid and skills to lift people out of poverty. Pray that they find Jesus and that He delivers them from this evil.
