We tend to think of the Millennium as 1000 years of continual joy in paradise. What can go wrong when Christ is ruling the earth?
But actually, the Millennium begins with the earth ruined by the Antichrist. It won’t become a paradise until we, with Christ, make it that way, ruling as kings, judges and priests.

This paradise will begin in Jerusalem, where Jesus will reign in His temple. There He will give us assignments to restore paradise to Israel and the nations.
“They will say, ‘This desolate land has become like the garden of Eden; and the waste, desolate and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited’” (Ezek. 36:35).
Restoring and reconciling
But we will also be reconciling sinners to Christ. Because many survivors of the Great Tribulation who did not receive the Antichrist mark, also did not receive Christ.
Those survivors will live long lives and multiply greatly on an increasingly fruitful earth. They will see glorified saints bringing Christ’s glory and kingdom to the nations. Multitudes will turn to Christ and be saved.
But when Satan returns at the end of the 1000 years, multitudes will join him in one last rebellion. How can that happen, after such a great worldwide witness of the love, majesty and power of Christ?
