Media Double-talk Promoting Marijuana

PM double-talk

PRAY WITH US about media double-talk. Father God, You see all, hear all, and know all. So open the eyes of government ministers. Help them see the serious consequences of government marijuana promotion. Open their ears. So they may hear earnest warnings about youth mental health consequences, drug cartels and economic paralysis. And open their minds that they may know how to promote health, safety and prosperity instead.

Also, cause these issues to go public. Warn addicts of how this is affecting their minds and health. Instead of turning to further drug addiction, free them from bondage to drugs. Deliver them from further temptations. Turn them toward Your ways instead. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.

PRAYER ALERT: Media Double-talk Promoting Legalized Marijuana

Belize media are now blaming evangelicals for the $5 million cost of the marijuana referendum. But PM John Briceno admits that much of that $5 million will go to a government “information campaign.” So the public is hearing only the government’s side. Until now, the media has been broadcasting long interviews with government ministers on the issue. But only publishing small snippets of NEAB’s 5 recent press releases against legalizing marijuana.

The government could have avoided the $5 million cost by not advancing such risky legislation. And by answering the repeated warnings of the churches of serious drawbacks. Instead the government insists that they have held “extensive consultations.” But none with the churches, though we repeatedly appealed for a hearing of our objections. We have been warning all along of serious youth addiction consequences, of drug cartel involvement and of harm to banking relationships. And much more.

Now the PM says “we are not going to implement this legislation” until banks agree to handle marijuana money. In effect he is arguing against legalizing marijuana until big international banks say we can. All but five countries in the world still won’t legalize marijuana, partly because banks avoid drug money.

Unresponsive government costs money. If the government wants to avoid a $5 million referendum price tag, it can pull the legislation now.
