“No Legalization, No Referendum” on Marijuana Bill

no legalization, no referendum

PRAY WITH US about no legalization, no referendum. Father God, You rule over rulers and nations. We declare that Your works are awesome and Your power is great. So thank You for finally bringing church leaders to the table with government leaders and working out this issue. Now we can make public the progress that You have made.

Therefore we ask You to confirm both privately and publicly that Belize will not become a marijuana republic. Instead of growing this alien and ruinous plant on our land, show us what You want to plant. And prosper the harvests. Also, help Your church continue to establish right relations with the government. And to speak Your truth in love and serve as a conscience to the whole nation. For You are wise and loving toward all You have made. In Jesus’ name, amen.

PRAYER ALERT: “No Legalization, No Referendum” on Marijuana Bill

I’m quoting what Channel 7 Belize reported that the main proponent of the marijuana bill said. “Minister of New Growth Enterprises Kareem Musa insisted that the reason why there will be no legalization and no referendum on the matter is that the referendum will be very costly.” Specifically, $5 million at a time when the government is cutting costs with a no-hiring policy.

Evangelicals like me can’t say such things at this time. Why? Because our leaders negotiating with the government on how to confirm this turn from legalization. National church leaders have the referendum against the bill firmly in hand. And won’t let go in case another effort to legalize marijuana arises. The people must vote on it first.

So now we have a public church-government joint statement on the bill. First, the House will vote on requiring the referendum to be held before considering the bill further. Also, the government will not enact the bill before it resolves the banking issues.

Of course, the churches also brought up critical concerns over health, safety and cartel involvement. But money became the deciding factor.

Yet God Himself is guiding this whole issue behind the scenes to bring it to a good conclusion. So let’s keep praying He keeps holding back the “increase of wickedness” that would otherwise result. And instead keep working it all to the good.
