Drug Violence Hits Mexico Tourist Spots & Belize

PRAY WITH US about Drug Violence Hits Mexico Tourist Spots: Father God, we thank You for the Prince of Peace. Because He took all the violence and sin of this world on Himself, so He could pay the penalty for us. We want Him to receive the reward of His sacrifice. So bring conviction on the drug dealers, to turn them away from that destructive business. Turn them to Jesus, who took the punishment that can bring them peace with God and others.

For those who do not turn, alert police to their evildoing. Even if it is happening in their own ranks, move them to enforce laws which protect us. Let the fear of God fall on criminals and police alike. For if they do not turn from their wicked ways, they will pay the ultimate price. Protect the tourists and all Belizeans and Mexicans from the multiplied evils that drug dealing brings. And show them Your way to enjoy and prosper with all the good things You have given us. To You be blessing and honor and power forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.

PRAYER ALERT: Drug Violence Hits Mexico Tourist Spots & Belize

On Thursday, a drug-gang related shootout near Cancun killed two drug dealers and sent tourists fleeing. It was the third incident in the past month drug violence in Mexican Caribbean tourist spots. Further south in Playa del Carmen, the killing of a policewoman prompted police to raid a row of restaurants.

Still further south in Tulum, crossfire between alleged rival drug dealers killed two tourists and injured three. In all, twelve drug gangs are vying to claim dominance on the Mexican Caribbean coast. There they compete for dealing drugs to 20 million tourists per year.

This bodes ill for tourism on Belize’s Caribbean coast not much further south. So does Friday’s police bust of a drug plane landing near the village of Bladen in southern Belize. After a shootout , police seized 1650 pounds of cocaine and five stolen assault rifles. However, at least one of those rifles turned out to be police property, implicating police officers.

Also, two of the drug-involved vehicles belonged to the very Operations Unit which responds to criminal drug plane landings. As a result, police detained two Operations Unit members, including the bodyguard for the Director of Public Prosecutions. That DPP, Cheryl-Lynn Vidal, happens to be wife of Assistant Police Commissioner Marcos Vidal. ACP Vidal runs the Operations Unit.

Police have detained That Director happens to be Vidal’s wife, Cheryl-Lynn Vidal.

We must pray for Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, who said he would get to the bottom of this. If police and public prosecutors are breaking the very anti-drug laws they should enforce, drug dealers would have their way. And Belize would go down the same destructive path as Mexico. God forbid!
