PRAY WITH US about El Salvador smashes tombstones, that God will:
- Pour out the Spirit of grace and supplication on those who mourn many deaths caused by MS-13. So that they will see the One gang members have pierced. And call on the risen Christ to change their hearts.
- Bring deep and powerful conviction on those who participate with MS-13 anywhere. Disrupt their local and international networks. Lead them to the repentance that brings salvation. And turn them from murderous Sauls into missionary Pauls.
- Bring to swift justice those who refuse to repent. Make them example to others considering the gang life, to cause them to fear God instead. And that grace will relieve their fears.
- For Haiti, halt the cholera that has been spreading ever since the fuel blockage ended. Guide the paths of people now emerging from isolation in ways of health, peace and salvation. And accelerate the food aid and medical supplies that so many need.
PRAYER ALERT: El Salvador Smashes Tombstones in War with MS-13 Gangs
El Salvador is applying a grisly remedy to MS-13 gang claims on territories, including cemeteries. It is sending prison gangs into graveyards to demolish the tombs of street gang members. Specifically, they use sledgehammers and pry bars and target mainly tombs marked MS-13.
Since March, police have imposed a “state of exception” and arrested 56,000 for alleged gang ties. But after gangs killed 62 people in one day, they escalated their crackdown to attack tombstones. Around the Day of the Dead, prison gangs destroyed almost 80 tombs in San Tecla municipal cemetery. San Tecla is a suburb of the capital city San Salvador. As a result, many mourners could visit graves without fear of the presence of MS-13-related people.
In a sense, by marking themselves with “MS”, they are taking a different mark of the beast. They marking themselves as beasts. Many say they don’t deserve human rights. Why? Because they devote themselves depriving others of rights to liberty and life. They even deprive others of a decent burial in death. So that is why many don’t blame the government for doing the same to them.
But we must pray for radical Saul-of-Tarsus conversions for such terrorists. And hope that other gang-plagued places like Haiti don’t resort to similar draconian measures. The MS-13 gang has US affiliates that send proceeds of their own illegal activities to Salvadorean MS-13 leaders. And so this hidden gang network has become an international mob.
