A Constitutional Republic? Which Way Will Belize Go?

PRAY WITH US about a constitutional republic. Father God, You have given all authority on heaven and earth to Jesus. But more and more nations want to deny Him any say in their governments. And want to deny His people any voice. Yet Your word will not return to You void, but accomplish Your good purposes for us.

So work every trend in the nation to the good of those who love You. Show how much You love the world despite its sin. Pour out Your Holy Spirit with such power that You reverse the ungodly trends of the world. And help us win many more souls to Your saving grace. Do not allow oppressors or evildoers to perpetuate their ungodly ways on an unwilling populace. But instead establish forms of government that become more responsive to them as they become more responsive to You. And overrule every move of the enemy with Your superior authority. In Jesus’ name, amen.

PRAYER ALERT: A Constitutional Republic? Which Way Will Belize Go?

As a constitutional monarchy, Belize elects a ruling party every 4-5 years which virtually controls all three branches of government. King Charles serves only a titular and ceremonial role. But now our 34-seat People’s Constitutional Commission could take Belize in different directions.

The ruling party holds half of the seats and could go more totalitarian. LGBT groups hold five seats and could go more woke. The UN holds three seats and could go more globalist. And the church, representing about 73% of Belizeans, holds only one seat. Can we resist an antichristian direction?

We can hope and pray that current trends against us will change. And that we will have years of great revival that so many have been prophesying. In the meantime, to be fair to all, we can advocate a constitutional republic. That gives everyone a level playing field. Otherwise, each interest group will try to enshrine its agenda in a constitution that may last decades. Or even centuries.

Instead, a republic allows every interest group to promote their candidates with their agenda. But it also allows the voters to decide which candidates represent them for the next 4-5 years. Moreover, a republic would allow us to keep our constitution simple and free of overt and covert agendas. A republic would leave the agendas up to the voters and their representatives. That way, as God moves on the voters, He can move the nation in His direction.
