We thank You for the way You created all men as equally loved by You. You gave us good laws which apply to all men for their good and protection from evil. Also, You gave all men rights within Your laws, and freedoms beyond Your laws.
Thank You for establishing so many democratic constitutions which uphold our rights and freedoms. Because they provide a just level field for Christians to show how no one compares with Jesus. Protect us from those who seek to take our rights and freedoms away. Furthermore, expose the promises of state-controlled societies as invitations to ruin. Do not let more nations go the way of the Soviet Union and Venezuela. Instead, help us to disciple the nations in Your ways. For Your is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.
PRAYER ALERT: Democracy Dissatisfaction Rating Rises Globally
When US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi tore up President Trump’s State of the Union speech, she was not acting in isolation. The speech featured a glowing progress report on the US’ free market democracy. But more and more Democrats are favoring socialism no matter how well the economy is performing.
So it the rest of the world. A recent survey of 4 million people in 154 countries reported that 57.5% are dissatisfied with democracy. This compares with a 33% dissatisfaction only 25 years ago. Even large developed democracies such as the US, UK, Australia and Brazil, have reached all-time highs of dissatisfaction.
The report cited political polarization as one main reason for their rising discontent. In many such nations the Left has moved so far from the Right as to leave irreconcilable differences. Accordingly, each newly elected government will try to undo what the previous government did.
As a result, the whole nation will rock back and forth. Each election will have the potential of becoming a revolution. But on the other hand, the losing side will try to make it difficult for the winners to govern at all.
