New Church-State Liaison Appointed for Belize

PRAY WITH US about new church-state liaison: Father God, we exalt You as King of kings and Lord of lord. You are head of the government and head of the church. Yet You have established different authorities in both. By Your wisdom, You have leaders of temporal affairs and leaders of eternal affairs. So as Your authorities in the Holy Spirit, we seek eternal life and eternal rewards for all people.

Therefore show us how to present Your eternal, spiritual and moral perspective to government leaders. Thank You for raising up a minister of religious affairs in the government. And thank You for providing a constitution that exalts You first. Show us how to make the most of this opportunity to understand and share Your wisdom and guidance. For You have the solution to all issues that the government authorities face. Turn them away from deceptive voices. Help them to hear Your voice through us, and to hear Your voice themselves. Because Your Word never disappoints. And Your love never fails. In Jesus’ name, amen.

PRAYER ALERT: New Church-State Liaison Appointed for Belize

Belize recently added a cabinet position called the Minister of Religious Affairs. Hon. Henry Charles Usher, also the Minister of Public Service and Constitutional & Political Reform, accepted the appointment with these words: he seeks to “merge the public service with the Christian fundamental Christian principles upon which our country is based.”

In doing so, he was citing the Belize Constitution which begins thus: “Whereas the people of Belize affirm that the Nation of Belize shall be founded upon principles which acknowledge the supremacy of God…”

In response, the National Evangelical Association of Belize said this landmark event was fitting for Belize. Also, NEAB pointed out the last census showing 73% of Belizeans self-identifying with a Christian church. And that the Constitution says our “freedom is founded upon respect for moral and spiritual values…”

This brings up the subject of what kind of relationship the church should have with the state…
